News and Recipes From the Farm

Opening Day is June 6

June is here and we are finally beginning to see the first of the blackberries start to change color.  We will be open this Saturday and there will be a few berries.  We expect to have a bunch ripe by 6/13.  I know that all of you are going to want some of these beautiful and tasty blackberries this summer.

We will have gallon bags of blueberries beginning this Saturday.  You will have your choice of either fresh or frozen berries.  Pearce has made arrangements to get fresh berries each week as long as the demand holds up.

Shorter Hours this year

Because we don’t have any blueberries for you to pick this year, we are shortening our daily hours.  We will be open our normal Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm. The cost of the blackberries will be $14 per level bucket and each of the buckets holds a little over a gallon.

Breakfast served at 8:30

We will open Bailey’s (our new, little restaurant) at 8:30 am each morning so that you can have breakfast with us.  We will be serving biscuits and sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy along with coffee, milk and orange juice.

And great lunches, too!

We are going to start our lunch menu with either turkey or ham panini sandwiches and salads – potato, bean and pasta.  We know that you will enjoy everything that we are planning to fix.  This summer we will have (our famous) blueberry lemonade, raspberry white tea, cold drinks, popcorn and ice cream.  Everyone should be able to find something to enjoy.

Blueberry Juice - good to drink, good for you!

By the way- I am selling pure blueberry juice for $15 per quart.  That is enough juice to make 5 gallons of mix.  (You will need to add the Countrytime Lemonade mix and a little extra sugar.)

All sorts of entertainment coming your way!

We have some very special entertainment for you this summer beginning on 6/13 with a ventriloquist by the name of L. A. Hudson.  The children should really enjoy his show.  R. W. High and his wife, Lenda, will be bringing two of their precious miniature donkeys each Saturday for at least 3 Saturdays.  They will probably be bringing High’s “Summer” Surprise and her best friend, Sher.  Summer weighed 12 lbs. and was 15” tall when she was born on 6/28/08.  She is now about 26” tall and will stay smaller than most.  Everyone should enjoy seeing them. See our Calendar for more details!

Father's Day has more great entertainment slated!

Father’s Day will be a very special day here at the Berry Patch.  Lanny Joe Burnett (our favorite local singer and storyteller) will be here entertaining everyone just like he always does.  The High’s will be here with two more of their miniature donkeys (probably 40 Watt’s Linda Lee and her baby, High’s Storm Spotter).  Stormy was born 5-14-09 in the wee hours of the morning during a driving rainstorm.   Carroll Winkle will be with two of his miniature horses.  He will be bringing a small cart and a small wagon for them to pull.  Carroll will be letting the smaller children take rides in the cart and in the wagon.  In addition to this, we will have a bounce house for everyone to enjoy.  By then, the blackberries should just be getting into their peak and we will make every effort to have plenty of one gallon bags of fresh and frozen blueberries.  The day should be loads of fun for the children and the adults. Don't forget to check our Calendar for more details!

A word of thanks

Many of you attended one or more of the three special programs that we had at the farm this spring.  Thank you so very much.

Don’t forget to tell your friends about us.  We would love for them to come out with you.  Let everyone know that the farm is still for sale.  If you know of someone interested, they can find more information on our web site…txberry.com.
